Topic: Cupcakes of the primrose bakery

Hi,

Today for my birthday I recieved a copy of "Cupcakes from the Primrose Bakery" I had a quick look through and this book looks amazing! Just wondering if anyone else has seen this book and what you think of the recipies and if anyone has tried the recipies what did you think/how did they taste? and how did you find it (was it relatively easy or quite difficult?

Re: Cupcakes of the primrose bakery

OOOhhh great pressie!!

I have this book and it's turned out to be my bible!  I have made a lot of the cupcake recipes and also the large cakes too and they have always turned out well and have been eaten very rapidly!!  I have made a lot of the different cupcakes for my sons teachers, they go down really well!

I have a LOT of baking books but I use this one almost every time x

When I started out, I used a lot of the recipes from Nigella Lawson's 'How to be a Domestic Goddess' as the recipes are what you would actually enjoy!! xx

Re: Cupcakes of the primrose bakery

please can you help me im looking for edible butterflies that look like lacy gossamer

Re: Cupcakes of the primrose bakery

Hi

I have also got this book and have tried the vanilla cupcake recipe for my birthday last year.  I also made a batch of the buttercream icing and coloured it a pale salmon colour.

The book is great and I can't wait to try more (although everybody in my family are trying to lose weight LOL).

Re: Cupcakes of the primrose bakery

now why does everyone need to get new recipes for so called cup cakes when all they are is the american name for fairy cakes.  The basic recipe has been around in blighty for years so any old cook book your mother/grandmother used will have the recipe.  It's easy to adapt and add different flavours.  I think these days we rely too much on precise ingredients and are too frightened to experiment and look at the old books.  I suppose it's 'baking fashion' at the mo but haven't cup cakes become old hat now anyway?

Re: Cupcakes of the primrose bakery

Hi
Can anyone recommend a lovely cake for a special occasion. I want to use chocolate cigarillos around it but not sure if White chocolate will be too sickly.

Re: Cupcakes of the primrose bakery

My favourites are in no particular order:

Rachel Allen Bake,
Mary Berry Baking Bible,
Hummingbird Bakery (first one although second one looks scrummy)

Re: Cupcakes of the primrose bakery

I also had the Primrose bakery book as a present tried the strawberries and cream cupcakes - DELICIOUS!

I've got it! I love it and use it all the time plus have adapted some recipes and changedthe ingredients slightly. It's really good book with loads of inspiration.

Re: Cupcakes of the primrose bakery

Sueq50 I don't know where to buy the butterflies you mentioned but years ago I made a butterfly cake for a child's 5th birthday (5 butterflies on it smile  I drew very simple butterfly shapes on parchment paper with marker pen, simple bold pattern on wings. Turn paper over, using marker pen means design shows through. Put boiled sweets in a bag and break up with a rolling pin. Be very careful from now on, either put in suitable container and "melt" in microwave or melt in a pan. lightly oil the shape and using teaspoon put a small amount of melted sweet into the shape on the paper. Put a cocktail stick on the body of the butterfly you can use this to lift the butterfly off and to stand on cake. Hope this helps smile
