Re: Childrens Birthday Cakes

Hiya,

I made a George Pig cake last year for my son's 3rd birthday, I was really proud of it!!

This year he's having a Mario cake as he's obsessed with Mario and Luigi!  I get full instructions from a shop on ebay and it makes them so easy to do as the instructions are step by step and the lady has loads of different cakes to choose from.......cheap too!!

Let me know if you'd like the link for her site for future cakes!

Are you putting pics on of your Thomas cake for us??  Hope so, Good Luck! xx

Re: Childrens Birthday Cakes

Hi! There's a 3D Thomas cake in one of Debbie Brown's books. Not tried it - a lot of work I think! (Although I got into cake decorating by making a 3D Noddy car cake using Debbie's Brown's instructions for my son's 1st birthday and been hooked on decorating cakes ever since!) I did a Thomas cake with the front end of Thomas on which was a bit fiddly but not difficult. I used a Thomas wallpaper frieze sample (spelling?) from B&Q - perfect size Thomas to fit on a 6" cake (could go bigger) then made templates to cut bits of sugarpaste out in required colours. Does that make sense?! Not sure if I can post a pic on here??

Re: Childrens Birthday Cakes

I made a 3D Thomas once...never again. How did you get on.I would put a 2D Thomas on the cake next time if asked. You could add other characters going around the base.Idea above is a good one.

Re: Childrens Birthday Cakes

I did one of these about 16 years ago, also an Edward engine.... i can't actually remember how i did it but have the pictures still .
best advice.... get a decent picture to copy, use swiss roll or two and cover with suitable colour fondant  icing. put in as much detail as you can manage . children will believe you if you tell them what it's supposed to be!

Mr Tickle.... try a large round cake on a much larger board. make arms and legs out of icing or thick  strawberry laces?

Re: Childrens Birthday Cakes

Do you know what is so special for a child's birthday celebration? It is the birthday cake. They love the moment of cutting the birthday cake. There can be so many gifts for the child, but the center of attraction is the birthday cake
