My 4 year old son and I try to bake every Sunday whilst my husband is at work. This is OUR time together and he loves measuring and mixing - although he doesn't like cakes and pies so never eats what we make!! lol!!
It's usually just cupcakes/muffins so I think I could do with a bit more imagination!! I'm going to have a look on the recipes on here for some inspiration!! xx
This is a fab site for baking with kids both my husband and I cook with both our children there isnothinglike sitting down to a family tea made by all of us. I love traditional family time xx
I think that this group is great because their always new things that your kids can make as a pastry chef I love see kids baking there own creations !: )
If you have leftover pastry, scone mix or anything that will roll out. Trace around his hand with handle end of teaspoon.(so he doesn't cut himself if he does it on his own) You could make a template but it's not so much fun! Make small depression in finger ends, pop into oven - when cooked and cooled a touch of cream or icing sugar on fingers then pop smarties on top. My grandchildren loved to make these. Hope you understand this. Enjoy your baking days together.

I have got an almost two year old, when is the best time for her to be involved in helping me in the kitchen?
Hi CharlieChinUK, I have a young child too and for me, it wasn't so much about the age but the interest. When K was really young, I'd move his high hair into the kitchen as I prepared the meal and show him the ingredients and allow him to touch and smell. I think that he was about 12 months, and then from there it was a gradual progression and a learning process for us both.
K is now nearly 3 and he likes to help out in the kitchen chopping up mushrooms with a dinner knife, cracking eggs (beware of the egg shells!), whisking eggs, stirring the dry and wet ingredients, turning on the mixer, making biscuits etc. K and I also have an understanding that when K is in the Kitchen he has to listen very carefully as the kitchen can be very dangerous. Having a child in the kitchen and teaching them about food is a great life skill that will hold them in good stead when they become independent. Good luck with it!
My little boy loves to help in the kitchen. He helps with whatever I am baking and he helps his daddy when he is baking bread. He started at about 26 months with saying "my mix" and its gone from there. He doesn't eat anything that we bake though but loves to help and now likes to help pealing veg too. He has always seen and lot of cooking going on in the kitchen so it was only a matter of time before he was going to want to join in. You just have to be prepared for it to take longer than if you were doing it yourself and that there is going to be more mess to clear up afterwards. It is a lovely time to spend together though and they are not little for very long.

Hi I am new to baking as I don't really like cooking, as it usually goes wrong, my fiance does most of the cooking for our family. I have recently gone full time at work and felt that I was not spending enough quality time with them, so my mum suggested baking cakes, I was a little reluctant so two days ago while the kids were at school I had my first attempt at brownies, just to see if I could, and they turned out great everyone liked them an I am just waiting for my second batch of the day, which are still in the oven, these ones me and my two little men made together and they loved it. I am now looking for some biscuit recipies, hope fully they will turn out just as well ![]()
my son loves to bake and has always helped me he loves it! my daughter isn't that intrested funny how things work out! he's 11 now and I think he could start making things on his own now, but really he just likes spending time with me and we chat while we bake its great!! x
