Topic: Cake decorations

I'm going to be making a joint birthday cake for myself and my boyfriend and want 2 themed edable decorations to stand on the top. I was thinking of doing a chocolate hand of poker cards to stand on the top although it needs to be thin enough for them to sit on each other and only plain chocolate (he's fussy grr!)

Also I wanted to do a chocolate shell of a cupcake paper mould and was thinking of just melting chocolate in the mould and letting it let but would this work?

Re: Cake decorations

The best way to make choc playing cards would be to spread a thin coat of melted tempered choc onto a piece of acetate cut whilst still soft then leave to dry which should only take about 10 mins, the trick is in making sure the choc is tempered do you know how to do that?
The same applies to using a cup cake liner as a mould a sillicone one would probably be easier
hope that helps

Re: Cake decorations

I was thinking of melting chocolate and making thin pieces although I've never heard of tempering before :S if you wouldn't mind telling me that'd be a great help!

Re: Cake decorations

You should try modelling chocolate - you treat it the same way as fondant icing /sugar paste
