Topic: Colouring Dessicated coconut

Hi all

I have a little boys football stadium cake to complete. Does anyone have any idea how I coulour dessicated coconut please???
I have sugarflair colouring that could be watered down but would it make the coconut wet? Do I toast it to dry it out? I have no idea and any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: Colouring Dessicated coconut

I would try and use a liquid food colouring, they are inexpensive, and available at most major stores. I get mine from Asda. A tip: always start with the smallest amount of colouring, 1/4 of a tea spoon, if that doesn't achieve the depth of colour you are after, then add another 1/4, and so on. Shouldn't make your coconut too wet, as long as you don't put too much in.Good luck.

You could try your local cake decorating shop, they will have a host of techniques and colours.

I have coloured caster sugar in the past by putting it in a bag and adding food colouring (I used Wilton gel colours) then mixing it all up. Worked really well smile
