Topic: Kenwood Chef

Hi everyone,

I have just joined the forum and am looking forward to having a look at what everyones upto with their baking smile

I moved into my first house just over 2 years ago and since then i have found that i love to bake!! I usually make cakes but have tried bread buns once and pastry.  I find that i struggle to make pastry but i am hoping to get better if anyone has any tips! smile

Anyways, I am going to invest in a Kenwood Chef (KMC510) and was just wondering if anyone else has one and what they think of them?  I've read plenty of reviews and have been on the Which? website and the KMC510 seems to be a good model to get.

I would appreciate any comments smile

Re: Kenwood Chef

I haven't got one but my neighbour had one which she recently passed onto her daughter because she's now in ill health and no longer uses  it. My neighbour absolutely raves about it. She used to make cakes to sell to her work mates and they happily paid her because they turned out better than shop bought ones and she could sell them cheaper. Oh. And this machine is 30 years old and still working perfectly!

Although it seems things aren't made the way they used to be, I'd say you're onto a winner with Kenwood. Actually, now I think about it, my bread making machine is Kenwood and it's easily ten years old and still going strong. Good luck in whatever you decide.

Re: Kenwood Chef

Thanks for your comment smile

I'm definatley going ahead with buying one when it eventually comes back in stock!

Re: Kenwood Chef

Please bear in mind that 30 year old Kenwoods are not the same as the present models and there has been some concern over units made in China.
This is why I bought a Severin KM3888 from a German manufacturer. The KM3888 is around £273 and includes a glass bowl blender, a mincer, a grater and a pasta maker in that price. It also has a two year guarantee which sealed the deal for me.
If you are interested, look at the Severin part of the Marketeer (London) Ltd. site.

Re: Kenwood Chef

I have a Kenwood Chef Premier and its amazing. Really good buy when they were on offer over xmas. They are however now twice the price. :-/

Re: Kenwood Chef

I bought a Kenwood Chef Premier a couple of weeks ago and it was even better than i expected!!  I would definatley recommend one to anyone who is looking to buy a mixer smile

Re: Kenwood Chef

I bought a Kenwood Chef Titanium last year after wanting a stand mixer for ages.

I was initially going to buy a KitchenAid, but after reading quite a few negative reviews about the longevity (or lack of) of those machines, I went for the Kenwood instead. It is a fantastic bit of kit which definitely gets a full workout in my kitchen, and I am more than happy with my purchase.

Don't be dazzled by the fancy looks of other machines - if you want something that will last, get a Kenwood! big_smile

Re: Kenwood Chef

We've had a Kenwood Chef for some years now and I couldn't manage without it.  Not only can I make reasonable shortcrust pastry with it (for the first time ever!) but it makes all our bread.  Mind you, my wife makes great pastry with or without the Chef.

I've made bread by hand kneading but the effort required is enormous IMHO and the Chef does it better and faster anyway.

It even enables me to make decent hot water crust pastries for my pork pies!

Re: Kenwood Chef

i have the kenwood chef kmc510 and I LOVE IT, the only gripe i have is that the splash guard is a bit flimsy, but all in all a fantastic mixer, bought mine in makros

Re: Kenwood Chef

My 1979 Kenwood Chef decided to burn out last year and motor was not available per local Kenwood recommended repair person. Since Kenwood only offered 1 year guarantees compared with Cuisinart's 5 year guarantees I decided on Cuisinart instead.

Re: Kenwood Chef

I also love my kenwood i got it from amazon it was a lot cheaper that the high street so check them out first! mine did break after two weeks (my husband said i over used it and he was glad cause he was getting fat!! haha) and you can't take them back to where you got it!, you have to ring kenwood but they did sort it straight away and it was fixed in a week! and its been fine since would recomend one they are fab! x

Re: Kenwood Chef

I've just purchased a Kenwood KMix and so far I love it. It's looks good, is quiet and works really well. Got it on offer at an excellent price. Have bought the grater / shredder attachment and the pasta attachment - both excellent. Would recommend.

Re: Kenwood Chef

I swear by Kenwood. I am 66 years old & have never had an item of theirs that has let me down. Never mind about one year guarantees, the only reason for a fault would be mis-use or a fault in manufacture in which case Kenwood would put that right as they rely on their reputation. I have been home baking more since I retired & so I treated myself to a Kenwood Chef (best price was Amazon). My only regret is I did not get one earlier. I absolutely love it, it makes baking easy peasy & is very easy to clean. You must read the instructions & if need be adjust the K beater. A friend of mine told me she never used hers as she didn't think it was very good-she was at the point of getting rid of it. I told her about the beaters & her husband adjusted them. Now she is a happy baker. My 11 year old granddaughter helps with my baking & loves it so my Kenwood chef which I am sure will outlive me will be passed on to her :-)
