Our doughnut sticks recipe with dipping chocolate on the side is quick and easy, ideal for a Sunday afternoon treat or for a birthday party. They are best eaten freshly made whilst still hot.

Method

  1. Step 1:

    Sift the flour and baking powder into a bowl and stir in the sugar.

  2. Step 2:

    Beat one tablespoon of oil and egg into into the dry ingredients, adding the milk slowly until the mixture forms a soft dough.

  3. Step 3:

    Heat the remaining oil in a deep-fat fryer to 170°C (335°F) or until a little of the mixture sizzles as soon as it is dropped in.

  4. Step 4:

    Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface and pat out to about 1 cm thick. Cut into thin strips and place carefully into the hot oil. Fry for 3-4 mins on each side, until golden and crisp.

  5. Step 5:

    Sprinkle the doughnuts with the sugar and cinnamon while hot and serve as soon as possible.

  6. Step 6:

    To make the chocolate dip, gently warm the chocolate and cream together until melted. Pour into a serving dish and serve.

  • For the dough

    • 250g Allinson's Self Raising Flour
    • 0.5 tsp Baking powder
    • 40g Billington's Unrefined Golden Caster Sugar
    • 1 Egg(s) (free range)
    • 2 tbsp Milk
    • 150ml Vegetable oil
  • For the topping

    • 2 tbsp Billington's Unrefined Golden Caster Sugar
    • 1pinch Cinnamon
  • For the dip

    • 150g Dark chocolate chips
    • 150ml Double cream
