About our chocolate dough balls recipe

Much like our Copycat Pizza Express Dough balls, we bring you our super sweet alternative. Simple to make, and gone in a blink - you might want to double up your batch (don't say we didn't warn you). To dive mouth first into chocolate heaven, dip these balls into warm chocolate, or Nutella - no judgement here.

What a perfect answer to party nibbles, or a movie night snack - these are almost too good to share though. Using Allinson's strong white bread flour, these warm dough balls are the perfect balance of fluffy but chewy, combined with Billington's Golden Unrefined sugar, expect a buttery flavour to come through when using this delightful sugar.

How to make perfectly round dough balls

Divide your dough into equal amounts, using a scale can make sure all balls are uniform in size when rolled into balls. Using a circular motion with the palm of your hand, gently roll the dough on a floured surface to create a ball shape. Be careful not to push down too hard, else the shape will become more tubular.

Roll between both of your hands if you find it easier. Remember the dough balls will grow in size when left to prove.

Plant based? No problem. Use plant butter and our Copycat Vegan Nutella and you're good to go.

    Method

    1. Step 1

Place the flour and salt into a large bowl, stir in the sugar and the yeast, then rub in the butter. Add enough water to form a soft, slightly sticky dough, you may not need it all.

      Ingredients for this step

      • 500gAllinson's Strong White Bread Flour
      • 1 1/2 tspSalt
      • 1 tspBillington's Unrefined Golden Caster Sugar
      • 1Allinson's Easy Bake Yeast Sachet
      • 15gButter (softened)
    2. Step 2

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for up to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

    3. Step 3

Divide the dough into 20 small pieces and roll each piece into a ball, then place on a baking tray, ensuring you leave space in between.

    4. Step 4

Cover with lightly greased cling film and leave in a warm place for 20-30 minutes, until the balls have almost doubled in size.

    5. Step 5

Preheat the oven to 230°C (fan 210°C, gas mark 8).

    6. Step 6

Bake the dough balls for 10 minutes then reduce the temperature to 200°C (fan 180°C, gas mark 6) for a further 10 minutes or until the dough balls are risen, golden brown and sound hollow when tapped underneath. Dust with icing sugar whilst they are still warm.
