What is the secret to good pizza dough? Well a great recipe of course. 

If you are looking for a healthier alternative or to improve your digestive health this pizza is the one for you. A classic combo of ham and sweetcorn topping a fresh wholemeal pizza base. Or if you prefer once you have mastered the wholemeal pizza dough get creative with your favourite toppings to please the whole family.

Method

  1. Step 1

    Put the flour, yeast, dried mixed herbs and salt in a large bowl and mix together.

  2. Step 2

    Stir in the olive oil and 100ml (3½fl oz) – 125ml (4fl oz) luke warm water, mix together adding more luke warm water if needed to form a soft dough.

  3. Step 3

    Turn out the dough onto a well floured surface and knead for approximately 3-4 minutes until the dough is quite smooth.

  4. Step 4

    Roll out the dough to a 30cm (12in) circle and place on a lightly floured baking sheet and cover with a clean tea towel and leave to rise in a warm place for 30-40 minutes until slightly risen.

  5. Step 5

    Preheat the oven to 220°C (200°C fan, gas mark 7). Spread the pizza topping on the pizza base, leaving about 1cm around the edge. Spread out evenly over the base the sweetcorn, pepper and ham and finish with the grated cheddar cheese.

  6. Step 6

    Bake in the oven for 8-10 minutes until the cheese has melted and the pizza is cooked.

    • 200gAllinson's very strong wholemeal bread flour 
    • 1 1/2 tspAllinson's Easy Bake Yeast 
    • 1 tspDried mixed herbs 
    • 1 tspSalt 
    • 1 tbspOlive oil 
  • For the Topping

    • 4 tbspTomato pasta sauce 
    • 90gSweetcorn (canned, drained) 
    • 1Yellow pepper(s) 
    • 2Ham (slices) 
    • 85gCheddar cheese (grated)

I didn’t have olive oil so I used groundnut oil instead,plus I left out the herbs,I wanted to have the wholemeal base but with my own toppings ,I followed the instructions for the base and cooked it accordingly as per instructions it came out perfect ,I would recommend this pizza base to my friends,
I used sweet chilli sauce instead of tomato purée,then added cheese and peppers ( red,yellow,green ) and mushrooms ,
Got to say it was yummy
