This quick and simple 20 minute Microwavable Treacle Sponge is one of the most popular recipes on our website.     Ingredients

      • 2Egg(s) (free range) 
      • 125gAllinson's Self Raising Flour 
      • 125gBillington's Unrefined Golden Caster Sugar 
      • 125gUnsalted Butter (softened) 
      • 2 tbspMilk 
      • 5 tbspSilver Spoon Golden Syrup

    • Mixing bowl
    • Pudding basin
    • Clingfilm

    Method

    1. Step 1

      Mix together the eggs, (sifted) flour, sugar, butter and milk until light and creamy in texture.

      Tip: The sponge batter should have a slow dropping consistency when you drop it from a spoon. If it is too thick, try stirring in 1 tbsp of warm water.

    2. Step 2

      Grease a large pudding basin or microwavable bowl (1 litre) or four individual size pudding basins. Pour golden syrup into the bottom of the pudding basin(s).

    3. Step 3

      Pour the cake mix on top. Cover with cling and pierce a few times. Microwave for 5 minutes (900W Microwave).

    4. Step 4

      Leave for 5 minutes before serving with custard.

    I double the ingredients, use Flora dairy free butter, as I can’t have dairy, squeeze loads of syrup into the bowl, it’s the 3rd one I’ve made, as my lot love this recipe, great for a Sunday tea treat 🤩
